Hello OUSD Community,

Thank you for your patience as we reorganize in the wake of the flooding and temporary closure of OUSD’s Main Administration Building. Although we’re still in the early stages of gauging the damage, it’s apparent now that staff who normally work at 1025 Second Avenue will be displaced through the spring.

We’ve just begun the first phase of a multiple stage process to determine the fitness of the building. This initial, assessment phase is expected to last from eight to 10 weeks. Further work is dependent on the outcome of this assessment, but would require additional time. Given this, we are preparing for the following departments, traditionally housed at 1025, to finish the year in other locations:

Please keep this this message or make note of the changes for future reference. We are currently producing signage to increase visibility of the new offices as well as a map of the new locations which we will distribute upon completion. We also ask that when visiting offices at school sites for adult business, that you minimize intrusion into student activities. This is particularly true at La Escuelita Education Center (LEEC) where the 286 10th St. entrance for business with (Superintendent’s Office, Risk Management, Instruction/Operations, Communications, Board Offices, Operations, and KDOL) is available and should be used instead of the La Escuelita School Entrance on Second Avenue.

For those traveling to Second Avenue, please note that, in light of the reduced numbers of employees commuting to this site, we have cancelled the shuttle service to and from the Main Administration Building, effective immediately.

Separately, we are assessing how signature and approval processes for contracts and MOUs may be impacted by the office relocations and determining how to redesign them in order to meet the needs of our schools and departments. Our goal is to streamline the process and minimize the travel required.

In closing, we recognize that all this change presents an inconvenience, and we ask that you remain patient as we cope with these unexpected developments. Please share any suggestions you might have on how to make this time less intrusive to the instruction of students and the operations of departments by emailing your ideas to Troy Flint at troy.flint@ousd.k12.ca.us.
